Slow Shutter Speed and Exposure Practice

Thought I'd share this photo as it is a practice photo that luckily turned out well. The aim was to try and understand the benefit of Exposure + or -. The principle is really simple but it has taken me a long time to understand, why I don't know, maybe I was trying to make it more complicated than it really was.

I under exposed the photo by -2.0 and use a long shutter speed of 1 second and ISO 200. I use my bag as a tripod to get a low angle and a remote shutter to avoid camera shake. I wasn't particularly focusing on anything and didn't notice the couple talking in the picture. With hindsight I probably should have used 0.5 seconds or possibly less so the people walking by are not so ghostly looking. But like I said it was just a practice photo just to learn more about the camera and ...

The end result is a photo of a couple engrossed in conversation as the world goes by.

Please let me know your thoughts.
